About Us

"No Bonez" was created out of our love of all natural, eco-friendly, preservative free, sustainable, biodegradable products. While there is no shortage of such items out there on the market, we just could not justify spending our money is support of all the "greenwashing" that most retailers participate in just to make a buck.

"No Bonez" is here to provide high quality homemade and handmade items without breaking the wallet and without all the marketing bull that comes with retailers. We are a family business that simply wants to share the priceless value of going natural because it's healthier, more sustainable, and better for the Earth. We are convinced that every step a person takes to a more natural way of life, the bigger the impact that will occur down the road. Some say that one person can't make a difference. We don't agree. We say that every person CAN make a difference.

The "No Bonez" Philosophy

Are you wondering what the significance of "No Bonez" is and how we decided upon using it as our name?

1.) We follow the no bones about it approach to our products and our services to you. Here's a brief explanation of that:

If you make no bones about something, you're speaking plainly and telling the truth. This expression dates back to the 1500s and some people believe it had to do with soup. If there were no bones in a soup, a person could swallow it without worrying about choking. Likewise, when you make no bones about something, people can feel confident "swallowing" your answer. ---- source

In other words, we are straight up with you about the quality and ingredients in our products. We hide nothing. We share everything. You can purchase our products and never question the ingredients, their quality, or the process in which they were made. If you ever do have any questions or doubts, we strongly encourage you to contact us for full disclosure. We are here to please.

2.) All of our products are made with animal friendly ingredients. We do not make anything that uses animal by products, which means that all of our products are 100% vegetarian. No animal fats are used in our soaps, no bone meal is used in our dog treats, and "no bonez" will ever be created in the making of our products.

3.) Imperfections are encouraged and embraced in the making of our products. We focus more on the quality of our items than on the aesthetic properties. We guarantee that all of our products are handmade/homemade, tested and approved by us, and guaranteed to be sustainable, natural, and eco-friendly. We aren't machines and don't produce bars of soap that are exactly the same shape, size, and weight. We don't make all of our dog treats to look exactly the same way. This is the beauty of homemade and handmade items. We make "no bonez" about that, either.

The "Z" and the Bamboo

We use the letter "z" in "No Bonez" instead of the letter "s", and this may cause one to question, Why?

The truth is that we have been using the letter "z" instead of "s" for several years now. It all started circa 1996 in a mIRC chatroom, the meeting place of Lee and Jim, the two people behind this endeavor. His username was "dbluez". She changed her username to match his and has since been known as "bluezfire" (notice the domain on which this site is residing right now). Over the years, it has been customary for the couple to use a "z" in place of the "s". Why should this site be any different?

Bamboo best represents the philosophy behind this endeavor. To understand why, let's take a look at some simple facts about bamboo that you may or may not know:

  • Bamboo is a grass, not a tree.
  • Bamboo is the fastest growing plant known. It can can grow up to a foot a day.
  • Bamboo is an eco-friendly resource, requiring no pesticides or fertilizers to grow.
  • Bamboo is 100% biodegradeable.
  • Bamboo is an endless renewable or replenishable resource.
  • Once cut, Bamboo grows a new shoot from its extensive root system and bamboo renews itself.
  • Bamboo is naturally non-allergenic.
  • Bamboo helps the air we breathe, releasing 35% more oxygen than equivalent amount of trees.

In short, bamboo is the eco-wonder of the world. There isn't much you can't do with bamboo. Bamboo is used to make clothes, yarn, food, floors, houses, bicycles, and much more. Bamboo has other qualities that are quite admirable: strength, resilience, hardiness, flexibility. And let's not forget that it is simply beautiful.

We chose to use bamboo to represent our name because it helps remind us that the answers to a more efficient and natural way of life sometimes lies in an object that we overlook. We also hope to spread the word and make a difference to someone else who wants to be more sustainable in the way they live. The key is to think outside the box. Don't be afraid to take risks and never let doubt defeat you. Be strong, be resilient, be flexible, and be confident.

Be like bamboo.
